Great questions so far!  Keep them coming!

I’ll start with Melisa’a Q’s first…..

Yes, Pozzolan is safe for veggie gardens! Remember, Pozzolan is an all natural product. It is not altered in any way from it’s natural state, except to be kiln fired to drive up the hardness and make it more resistant to breakdown. Adding Pozzolan to your veggie garden will not only cut down on how often you need to water and fertilize, it will promote healthier plants and faster growth. You should also expect higher yields on your veggies.

Pozzolan is great for container plants and hanging baskets, both of which can be difficult to keep watered in the dry summer months. Mix 1 part Pozzolan with 5 parts potting soil before you add your favorite flowers to the pots. This will help to keep the plants from drying out too quickly. It will also help to retain fertilizer and nutrients in the soil, keeping them available to the plant longer.

Hope that answers your questions Melisa! Happy gardening!

OK, on to Rich’s Q….

Pozzolan is diatomaceous in origin. To insects this is lethal, with microscopic razor sharp edges. These sharp edges cut through the insect’s protective covering drying it out and killing them when they come in contact with it. If they ingest it will shred their insides. It will NOT harm warm blooded animals or earthworms. Earthworms are structurally different than insects and can safely ingest it.
